Grout fills the joints between tiles and plays a part in both appearance and long-term maintenance. The two most commonly referenced families are cementitious grout (sanded and unsanded) and epoxy grout, each with different practical trade-offs.

Rectified tiles are tiles whose edges have been mechanically ground after firing so that each piece shares very consistent dimensions and straight edges. This is commonly associated with a clean, modern look and the option of narrower grout joints, and it is often seen on porcelain tiles, large format tiles, and big tiles.

Pool areas are regularly exposed to water, outdoor conditions, and often barefoot traffic, so tile selection should consider more than appearance. Wet slip resistance references such as Pendulum P-ratings are commonly reviewed for pool decks, wet areas, changing rooms, and outdoor walkways.
